Barocco Boreale (‘Northern Baroque’) was established in 2013 out of a need for an ensemble specialising in early music and performing regularly in the northerly parts of Finland. Its key members are musicians from the region of Ostrobothnia who have extensive experience of playing together with various ensembles over several decades. Their strong connection with folk music gives their work a common creative direction, and there is always a chance some folk music nuances may crop up, even inadvertently. Barocco Boreale most commonly performs in the acoustically and atmospherically excellent churches around the Ostrobothnian region with a line-up that varies according to the needs of the occasion. The ensemble is also at home performing at music events and festivals all around Finland.
